Hello friends,
As we step into 2026, we are given a fresh start—a chance to leave the past behind and embrace all that God has for us. January is a month of new beginnings, and I want to share a little from my book, Dressed to Kill, to set the tone for this new year.
Paul tells us, “So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1-2).
Before Christ, our minds naturally focus on what’s right in front of us: success, approval, appearance, survival. But when we are raised with Christ, we are invited into a completely different mindset—eternal and kingdom-oriented. I like to think of it like an old GPS versus the updated Garmin I had years ago. Before Christ, I was following paths that seemed right but kept getting lost, hearing the voice of my own “rerouting.” When I came to Him, my spiritual “Garmin” was finally recalibrated. Earthly thinking reroutes us endlessly; a heavenly mindset keeps us aligned with God’s will and direction.
This January, let’s set our minds on things above. Let your thoughts, your choices, and your life be shaped by Christ, not by the world. Just as athletes focus on their goal, we focus on the One who is life itself (John 14:6). The world offers death; Jesus gives life. And in Him, we can walk into this new year with renewed hope, vision, and purpose.
Blessings,
Pastor Matt
