Hello friends,

What does it mean to serve? How should it look? Who are we actually serving?

Jesus gives us an amazing picture of the answers to all these questions in John.

“So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him” (John 13:4-5 NLT).

Notice the 4 acts of service:

1. He got up. (He saw a need, and He got up. If we want to help, we have to first get up!)

2. He wrapped a towel around His waist. (This is what servants would do, they would have a towel around their waist ready to serve).

3. He knelt down. (The mindset of Christ in Philippians tells us to not think of ourselves as higher than anyone else.)

4. He washed the disciples’ feet. (Not only cleaning their feet, but a picture of only Jesus could cleanse us of our dirtiness).

Jesus did not come into this world to be served, but He served. He willingly gave up His life for us, so that we could live forever when we turn from our sin and turn to Him in faith.

As we start this month, what is something that we can do to help: our church, our community, our neighbors, or our family? How can we serve others in the same mindset that Christ had?

If you are looking to get more involved in the church, we would be excited to have you join our team!

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people” (Colossians 3:23 NLT).

Blessings,
Pastor Matt
